When blue-green stains appear in tubs, toilets and sinks, it is often times, but not always, due to low ph levels in the water. Lack of grounding clamps, dissimilar metals incorrectly connected together, grounding problems with the homes electricity, and high copper levels in the water are other causes for these stains.
Your Blue Fountain representative will find what the actual cause of the staining is, then make the correct recommendation to fix the problem.
If the cause is low ph water, meaning water that has elevated acid levels, then a calcite filter is usually installed to raise the ph level to approximately 7.0 to 7.3. The acid is neutralized, the problem is solved, and within a few months, the blue green stains disappear.
Calcite can be installed either in a simple in/out tank or with a backwash valve, depending on water conditions. Calcite systems require no salt, chemicals or regular maintenance. However, because the Calcite is literally dissolving into the water in order to raise the ph level, the calcite media has to be periodically added to the calcite tank. This may need to be done every 6 months to 2 years, depending on water usage, water conditions, and the size of the unit installed.calcite
